Rights Respecting School

Castilion Primary School receives prestigious UNICEF UK Silver Award

The school has been working with UNICEF since September 2022. We celebrated our achievement in reaching Silver with a Silver Award Assembly on Wednesday 16th April 2024.

Castilion is a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential as global citizens. As a school, we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’ bronze, an award given to schools on behalf on Unicef UK.

The children have already learnt about their rights through assemblies and learning in class and are becoming very confident when talking about these.

What is a Rights Respecting School?

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their full potential.

We believe the UNCRC reflects the beliefs of our school community, that our children receive their rights to a wonderful education and understand the responsibilities that they have to their communities as they grow in to confident, active and responsible citizens.

A Rights Respecting school models rights and respect in all relationships. Children learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. The following rights are very important to Castilion school.
